About us
Pastor Kimberly Barker Brugman
Greetings in the name of our risen Lord Jesus Christ!
Welcome to Lawrenceville United Methodist Church where we are: Following the teachings of Jesus to serve God and others in all that we do and in all that we can.
I am so glad you stopped by our website. I am delighted to be serving God here in Lawrenceville, VA. Please feel free to stop by the church in person for worship at 11 am on Sunday or schedule an appointment with me to find out more about LUMC.
Here is a little bit about me so you can get to know me better:
I am an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church (UMC) and a member of the Virginia Annual Conference. I have a love for all things ecumenical and the spiritual life. I have served rural and suburban churches in up-state New York and in the Virginia Conference.
I graduated from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio with a Master of Divinity and a Master in Christian Education (1993). I completed a two year spiritual direction school through the RUAH VI, at Richmond Hill Retreat Center in Richmond, VA. I am the CEO of Soul Story Ministries; a ministry of spiritual direction, retreats, workshops, and labyrinth events. I am also a Stephen Ministry Leader.
In my undergraduate degree from Ohio Wesleyan University I did a BA in Botany and a minor in Zoology. When asked about this change in vocation it seems like a natural step for me to move from studying the Creation to the Creator; both have always been a part of my life. I love nature and often find I am closer to God in quiet time walking through the woods or fields or simply gazing at a garden of flowers or a bird in flight. I love that Jesus was a healer. I believe God can heal the world, human beings, humanity, the Church, and people in many different ways. I believe in Jesus’ message of hope and peace for individuals, churches, and the world.
I have been married to Kevin Brugman for 27 years and we have two young adult sons: Jonathon (married to our brilliant and beautiful daughter-in-love Amy) and Jason. We delight in walking and hanging out with our black lab mix dog, Kaliyah.
In my spare time I enjoy: knitting, crocheting, reading, photography, hiking, biking, traveling, scrap booking, and hanging out with the family.

Michelle Powell-Bell
FoodBank Coordinator
Michelle is the Lawrenceville United Methodist Church Food pantry coordinator and
Feedmore representative, which provides food to 400-600 plus families monthly to Brunswick county residents & is an Emergency feedmore hub which can feed food to outside counties when needed.
Second Friday of each month she coordinates a drive through food pantry in the parking lot behind the church. Register from your car and you are given a box of food: frozen meats, fresh produce, and dried goods. On the second Tuesday of each month she coordinates a senior citizen food pantry from the church: pick up or delivery. Register at the church phone number (434-848-2320) and a food pantry person will contact you. Food is handed out at other times as needed via referrals from social services. In addition there are numerous Pop-Ups to provide food as it becomes available.
